Seek Court-Ordered Drug Treatment
Helping Loved Ones Find the Treatment They Need
Casey’s Law provides a way for family members and friends to intervene when someone they care about is unable to recognize their need for treatment due to drug or alcohol addiction. Under Casey’s Law, a petitioner—such as a parent, relative, or friend—can ask the court to order involuntary treatment for a loved one (referred to as the respondent) suffering from addiction.
This process can be life-saving for individuals who present an imminent danger to themselves or others and are in need of treatment. Treatment options will vary depending on the circumstances of each case.
The court will order involuntary treatment under Casey’s Law if:
- The respondent suffers from drug or alcohol abuse.
- The respondent presents an imminent threat to themselves, their family, or others, or there is a substantial likelihood of such a threat in the near future.
- The respondent can reasonably benefit from treatment.
If you need assistance or would like more information on how to file a petition under Casey’s Law, please contact the Clay County Attorney’s Office at (606) 598-5110 or visit our office at 102 Walters Street, Manchester, KY.
Helping your loved one start on the path to recovery can make all the difference. We’re here to support you through every step of the process.
